Baking Bread in Beleili
Faiz and Ammar, two men in the Beleili neighbourhood in Sana’a, decided to do something about the devastating food situation.
“I saw a man on the streets selling his own shoes to buy bread and a piece of cheese to feed his children. It made me realize that we had to do something for our neighbors. I already sold my car to afford this. I will continue until I have to sell my house. It is about solidarity, it is about helping each other through a very difficult time,” says Ammar. He owns the small bakery set up to serve 400 families with free bread every single day.
“It makes me very happy to see that there is still solidarity among people, and hopefully we can serve as a good example. God willing, we will be able to continue as long as there is a need for this,” says Faiz, the baker devoting his time to make bread for people in need in the neighborhood.
