Olga receiving construction materials to repair her damaged house
Olga (53) lives with her husband Yurii (53) in Shachstia town. She is retired military and her husband Yurii has heart failure and is not able to work. When missile hit their house in January 2015 they were hiding in a small basement and survived. Their house is located very close to the contact line, every day this family hears the shelling and lives on a “powder keg”.
“Assistance provided by NRC is substantial for us. We cannot afford to buy construction materials to repair our house, as we spend most of our pensions to buy medications and pay for public utility services. We are lucky to have vegetable garden to be somehow food secure. We were even canning fruit and vegetables in the basement, as shelling did not stop”, says Olga.
Despite financial difficulties, for Olga and her husband the biggest desire is to live in peace.
