Iraqi children who have left everything behind in Mosul with their families to survive are playing football on street in Khazer camp where NRC provides psychosocial support to help children cope with their new surroundings and any traumatic events they may have experienced. Through our Better Learning Program (BLP), we teach children deep breathing and stretching techniques that reduce stress and help improve focus. BLP also uses art as a way for children to process the events they've experienced in a positive manner, which has been proven to reduce things like nightmares and negative behavior in the classroom.
NRC's School Support Centre provides a safe space for children to play, learn and grow. Instructors have received training in how to work with conflict-affected children, and they tailor their games and activities to engage children in their new environment. Children play sports, engage in music and art activities, and also receive basic education classes to help prepare them to go back to school.
