New classroom in Los Alpes village
Los Alpes village is the home of one of the Nasa indigenous community, is located in the mountainous territory of the municipality of Corinto -south west of Colombia-.
"For years we lived clashes between armed groups, the village was very affected and many people decided to displace. There were whole weeks without classes or the children did not come to school due the fear of finding mines along the way or be in cross fire" tells Liliana Taquinaz, teacher in charge of the little rural school.
Around the school and the village, the community have found mines, also the continuous presence of armed groups represents a high risk for children.
To promote education in emergency, NRC supported the construction of a protective space for education. Also, children learnt about secure behaviors to prevent mines accidents.
NRC delivered sport, cultural and pedagogic material to the school and each student received a school kit to promote their right to education.
