Press Release: Lack of Funding and Insecurity have forced half a million children out of school
In Mali, 519,000 children are out of school for security and economic reasons. As of March 2022, the number of children who dropped out of school increased by approximately 15% compared to the same period last year. In addition to issues related to insecurity, education in crisis areas suffers from a lack of funding. For schools in conflict zones, having enough funding to build and rehabilitate school infrastructure is vital. It is imperative that key stakeholders mobilize around providing sufficient funding to this education crisis because the future of half a million Malian children depends on it.

Students and displaced students learning in an overcrowded school
In Ménaka Region in Mali, violent attacks in recent months have displaced families in the communes of Inchinane, Anderamboukane, Inekar, Anouzagraine and others. Families fled with their children to the capital of Ménaka region, Ménaka town (Ménaka ville). As a result, this primary school in Ménaka town is packed with newly displaced students sharing benches with students from the host community.
