Sandi Ag Mohamed fled Bankass in Mopti region to come to Tina Djorof in Timbuktu region. On March 23 2019, 134 people were killed in a village in the Bankass district where Sandi is from. He decided to leave Bankass to go to Timbuktu.
'We fled there because of killings, cattle robberies and the sounds of weapons. Some saw their houses burned, their belongings destroyed. The communities are fighting on one side and on the other side, there are the military and some armed men who are fighting each other. That's why we fled and came here. Along the way, we suffered a lot because we do not have money to take the buses. Some of us had carts and donkeys that they used as a means of transportation. But others have walked days and nights to get here. It was their only option.
Here, we feel really safe and away from all these tragedies. But we have needs, such as shelter, food, clean water, medicine for our patients and a school for our children.
We do not intend to return there at all until there is peace.
