What used to be Sinjar's main shopping street, now riddled with bullet holes
Sinjar was underneath Sinjar Mountain with a 4th century Roman fort, as well as Shia shrines and different types of mosques, an Armenian church, different Christian communities, Shia and Sunni Muslims, Turkmens and Arabs.
Now the old city is just a pile of rubble, laced with debris and metal. Not a single house has been spared from bullet holes.
